Mik Murdoch Boy Superhero Michell Plested Books
Mik Murdoch is just like any other nine-year-old boy; after watching the amazing Spiderman he decides he wants to be a superhero. But how does a superhero get his power? Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider. Superman came from another world . . . .And so the quest begins.
With his trusty dog Krypto by his side he begins to hunt for a way to kick start his superpowers and manages to get into all sorts of amusing trouble along the way. As the search continues, he runs into people in trouble in the community and in his heart he knows he has to stop and do what he can to help. The last is not something every nine-year-old boy or girl is so willing to do and this is what sets Mik apart from most of the others.
In an age where violence, darkness and bad attitudes are the norm it can be difficult to choose a novel for our young children to read. When I was a child, the novels to read were the "Little House" books by Laura Engles Wilder. I remember wishing I was Half Pint as I read about one adventure after another. Mik Murdock reminds me a great deal of the young Laura Engles, in that he cares about his family and friends, often putting their needs above his own. But he doesn't always do exactly as he's told, and this works to get him into trouble. I hadn't planned to read straight through when I picked up the story, but that's exactly what I did. I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a novel so much. It is easy to imagine the younger generation eagerly waiting to see what Mik will be up to next. Well done to the author Michell Plested! He has managed to hook this big kid-at-heart.

Mik Murdoch Boy Superhero Michell Plested Books Reviews
Now that I have kids I find the things on my "To Read" shelf are changing. In part that's because I want to be reading what they're reading so we can talk about it. There's also something refreshing about diving into a book that asks me to cast aside the cares of an adult world for a few hours. That's not to say that the cares of children are somehow lesser than my own, oh no. The issues they deal with are simply different, most of the time. So, I'm reading more young adult and juvenile fiction these days and enjoying it.
As such, when I saw that Mike Plested had advance reader copies of Mik Murdoch Boy Superhero ready for the taking, I snapped one up. I'm a fan of Mike's work, and in the spirit of full disclosure I'm also partnering with him on some serial fiction. I was therefore fairly sure that I would enjoy it. I was not disappointed.
Mik's first person tale let's us in on the deepest desire of his heart - to become a superhero. The nine year old boy in me certainly understands that. I wanted little more than to be Spiderman or Superman (Batman in my teen years). Not one to sit idly by, Mik takes cues from the greats and tries to arrange for radiological and chemical "accidents". He also tries to build his own super suit. During these escapades he finds out what the "hero" part of superhero means. He also discovers a way to make that "super" happen as well. Will he use it? Read the book.
If you have a young person in your life, who like Mik and I has that desire, I can strongly recommend this book. The chapters are somewhat episodic and would make for great parent/child bed time reading. For young readers that have the knack of going on their own this is also an excellent choice. While Mik is a boy, I know plenty of girls who would enjoy his adventures and can recommend it to readers of any gender. I give this five capes.
This is one great read from beginning to end for any young american. It's just awesome, and I can't wait for the sequel.
When I read the title, I thought the story was going to go in a different direction. I was pleasantly surprised; so much so that I powered through it. Only the need for sleep kept me from reading it in one sitting.
Michell Plested has crafted a wonderful tale about a young man who has chosen to become a hero and learns what that means for him.
The typical superhero is someone who reacts to the pain of deep loss. Michell has taken a different route that I really appreciate. We are transported to a small town rather than a dark gritty city. But the lessons learned may be ones we all should pay attention to.
This is a great book for pre-teen readers in that most chapters are almost like their own episodic story as part of the large tale. This novel keeps your attention without overly flashy. That being said, this 40+ year old loved it too. Now I'm just waiting for the sequel (though I may re-read this sooner than that).
This book was awesome. I bet Michell had a lot of fun reliving parts of his youth writing this book. There are some great adventures in here, and tons of them, which makes it a really fun read. I can't wait to read this to my kids once they're old enough. Not only do I know they'll love it for the entertainment and laughter, but it has great moral lessons tied in to the adventures as well. Parents should read this to their kids, or better yet buy it for them and put it on their device or on their shelf. I think this is a great book for kids, and adults who are kids at heart like me. I laughed out loud so many times reading this book. The humor is brilliant. I've also read Michell's science fiction novel that's available at [...] called Galaxy Billies which had me rolling with laughter, and I now know that his sense of humor will always keep me coming back for his next book. The dude can also write up some super fun adventures. Some of my favorite parts were before the adventures too, when the character was making plans and preparations. That's all I'll say because I don't want to spoil anything. I'm so glad I bought this one, it was really fun and I can't wait to share it with my kids so I can read it again!
